Mobilising for Action

Mobilising for Action is a research theme of the
Biological Heritage National Science Challenge,
Ngā Rākau Taketake programme.

We are researching the human dimensions of ngahere / forest health in Aotearoa / New
Zealand and more specifically the people and communities affected by,
or at risk of being affected by kauri dieback and myrtle rust.

In this website we share our research and our stories, and introduce our social science team
undertaking research that supports, engages and empowers New Zealanders
to protect the ngahere for future generations.

Nurture, grow, blossom

Our People

Our research team draws from a wide pool of national and international researchers with experience in theoretical and applied social research using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and a diverse range of applied practitioners with experience in community projects and collaborations.

Our Research

Our research focuses on the human dimensions of ngahere/forest health. We seek to understand the meaning people attach to te taiao (the environment), ngahere (forest), and taonga (treasured) species, to explore people’s connection and how this can be fostered and supported, to empower them to make a difference now and in the future so te taiao, ngahere, and taonga species flourish.
